Overview

Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) is a world-class research institution powered by a highly educated, diverse workforce committed to the values of Integrity, Creativity, Collaboration, Impact, and Courage. Every year, scores of dynamic, driven people come to PNNL to work with renowned researchers on meaningful science, innovations and outcomes for the U.S. Department of Energy and other sponsors; here is your chance to be one of them!

At PNNL, you will find an exciting research environment and excellent benefits including health insurance, flexible work schedules and telework options. PNNL is located in eastern Washington State—the dry side of Washington known for its stellar outdoor recreation and affordable cost of living. The Lab’s campus is only a 45-minute flight (or ~3 hour drive) from Seattle or Portland, and is serviced by the convenient PSC airport, connected to 8 major hubs.

The Visual Analytics Group at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) is seeking a Senior User Experience Designer to lead our cross-functional project teams, building software applications and data visualization tools for national security and energy stakeholders. As a Senior UX designer at PNNL, you will collaborate with world-class scientists, researchers, business stakeholders, agile software development teams, and end-users to create world-class user experiences. You will collect user requirements through subject-matter expert interviews, user interviews, and workshops. You will design well-documented concepts, wireframes, user-flows, high-fidelity mockups, interactions, prototypes, and design specifications throughout the product life-cycle. You will help lead small UX teams and development efforts by example through instrumenting and developing templates in design specifications and style guides. You will help broaden the impact of user experience design through business development, internal and external outreach, and mentoring of junior staff. The ideal candidate will demonstrate Design leadership and strong knowledge of user-centered design principles and present a clear rationale for design decisions through a robust portfolio of useful, useable, and desirable designs.
